The release of most movies in 2010 proved that this year was one of the weaker ones for films. The best picture of the year award only had a few films that were considered for it and they usually were acknowledged before they were released. Early on one of the year's best movies was recognized very early in the year. True Grit was in the running for best picture almost immediately after being released 2010. True Grit was also in the running for many other awards in addition to this one.

The Coen brothers are well known within the film industry and they made this film. They have made many popular films over the years and True Grit ranks among one of the best. Although True Grit was a remake of a previous film starring John Wayne, it was very different and seemed to stay truer to the original book version. An outstanding cast of characters was one feature that really helped the movie climb the ranks.

The main role was given to Jeff Bridges. Jeff Bridges had worked with the Coen brothers on other films as well, most notably The Big Lebowski. He plays the man hired by a young woman to avenge the murder of her father. There is a transformation that Bridges makes as the film progresses starting as one who cares for nothing changing to a man who cares for the young lady. The young lady continued to view him as an important person in her life even though they never saw each other after their adventure.

The time spend watching True Grit is well worth it. The genre of Western films has slowly become rarer and rare, but this film is one that is very well done. Great scenes that mix up some high comedy and dead seriousness offers the mix that most are used to with Coen brothers films. Everyone who watches this movie will be entertained.
