Many states are beginning to put through laws that require people to have carbon monoxide gas detectors in their houses. This is really a good thing because carbon monoxide is toxic to living beings. Carbon monoxide is particularly dangerous because you can’t see or smell it. Carbon monoxide comes from appliences that burn gas or oil.  If the ventilation is not done correctly, carbon monoxide can be vented into your house. If the device is not vented properly you may be breathing in deadly carbon monoxide gas.

Some of the more common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include feeling tired, nauseous, and having a headache. If more then one person in your house feels this way, get out of your house right away. If you feel better after getting out of the house for a while, get a carbon monoxide detector you may have a problem on your hands. Carbon monoxide can cause both brain damage and finally death if you are exposed to it for too long.

The first step in stopping carbon monoxide posioning is to make sure all of your fuel burning applience are properly vented. Carbon monoxide detectors are the second thing you should highly consider getting to protect yourself from carbon monoxide poisoning. Many states are making it mandatory for homeowners to install carbon monoxide detectors. You can easily find carbon monoxide detectors online or at your local stores.  There are some fire/ carbon monoxide detector that are a combination. I would ultimately recommend getting two separate units, one for fire and one for carbon dioxide.

There are also interconnected carbon monoxide detectors that are great for multi level homes. Electritions can install wired models, or you can install your own wireless models. Interconnected models give the advantage if one of the alarms goes off they all will go off.  This way you can surely hear the alarm no matter where you are in the house. Talk about an outstanding safety feature.

Ultimately it is up to you as to what your needs are for your individual house.  Remember battery operated models need to have their batteries replaced every six months.
