Where Should I Advertise On The Radio?

One of the most important ways by which you can turn your small business into a thriving, money-making machine is by advertising. And even though one of the best ways to advertise is to use the radio, radio advertising can also be one of the most pointless ways to advertise for those who do not know what they are doing. If you want to advertise successfully, one of the biggest things for "knowing what you are doing" is knowing your target market.

There are plenty of resources for finding out which demographics listen to which stations, but this will not help you unless you first know who you should go after. For instance, you might think that advertising on a sports radio program is a good idea if you are a dentist who is wanting to advertise on the radio. After all, you probably have just as many male patients as female, and you know that men are always listening to sports radio! But if you pay closer attention, you might find that it is often the women who call to make the appointment for the men - and it is much more effective to advertise on the stations they listen to.

Even after you narrow things down to the demographic you hope to target with your ad, you will need to make sure you know how to appeal to them. Too many people wonder why their ad is not effective at all - after they have made the ad on their own. Just as you are an expert in what you do, there are those who are experts at creating radio advertisements that are catchy and effective. Rather than trying to take the radio advertising into your own hands, you will be much better off hiring such people and ensuring results.

Finally, use an actual ad agency to distribute the advertisements themselves, rather than having someone who works at your business and does not know what they are doing try to distribute the ads. You will be able to know the number of times your ad was played, the times of day your ad was played, and the response to the ad if you use one of these agencies; with all of this, radio advertising becomes a truly effective tool.
