Managing employees can be a difficult task. Each employee has different things that motivate them. Different management techniques will need to be used on each of them. There are many different types of management styles. The buddy, Mr Cool and the micromanager are all examples. Although each type of manager has benefits and negatives, the most well rounded type of manager is the coach. Many of the other types of managers will employ extreme management techniques, but the coach doesn't. A few examples are how the micromanager nit picks every little task and how Mr Cool only cares about his own image. Coaches don't use either of these methods. The best interest of the team is always what the coach has in mind, choosing to ignore what is best for them personally. The coach also realizes that there are some tasks that don’t need to be managed. The coach gives responsibility and freedom to their employees for them to make educated choice. One of the best traits of this type of manager lies in the way they interact with employees. If a small task goes undone, they won't get on top of an employee for it. They will let it go and do what their name says, they will coach that employee up. This benefits the whole team in many ways. One way is the confidence employees will have. They will know that if there is something they fail to do, the coach will help them through it by teaching them why they failed. This creates a team environment since each employee feels like they are crucial to the success of everyone. Although it may seem like a perfect style, it is definitely not. Their management style may not be harsh enough for some employees. Some employees simply need to be reprimanded harshly. Coaches may also fail to give credit where credit is due since they are so focused on what the team is accomplishing. In reality, the coach may be the best definitive style, but it is always a great idea to blend some management styles together to create one of your own.
